As a track coach, my job is to be part of a very precise system which focuses on typically one outcome: maximal speed or jumping ability at key points throughout the season. I realize that many readers of this site are not track athletes, but rather play basketball, volleyball, football, soccer, or coach athletes that do play team sports. I made the slideshow below as part of a work presentation to get some discussion going on the positive aspects of track and field coaching that can filter down into the training of other sports. I find that many team sports will tend to throw a lot of non-specific conditioning work out there and label it “mental toughness”. Team sport coaches can also learn from the principles of track and field coaching by learning how to manage the micro-cycle and pair demands of each training session. The presentation below covers my thoughts on this area. Hope you enoy it!
